Apart from this annoying problem I love this board, I just have to remember to put my XP CD in when I boot up. Hopefully ASUS can get this fixed in an upcoming BIOS release. Functional, then continues to boot. However the system then gives me the NT Loader error - "NTLDR is missing" and forces me to reboot.

Now XP will only boot from the CD. And under boot options, I have XP listed twice. I used Q315233 in attempt to fix the problem. No luck. Recovery Console also failed to fix the problem, ditto on replacing NTLDR and NTDETECT.com. I have removed the hidden and system file attributes and can't locate boot.in.

That boot sector has only 512 bytes of code, so it can't do much, but it can find the file ntldr in that partition, read it into memory, and transfer control to it. XP won't boot, says "NTLDR is Missing"
DAT file isn't in good shape for the NT setup. The file has some binary in it, but the text states that NTLDR is missing. That probably ? means my NT setup on D: isn't good and I probably need to set the D: drive up with NT. How can this be accomplished from the WinXP CD? Before I changed the mobo out, this was ok.

No!!! NTLDR is missing. Can't boot!
Again, I can't say what the size of those partitions will be since a lot depends on the saturation level of the existing partition. When the system attempts to boot now (w/o booting off the CD), it will not find the boot files and report "NTLDR missing" or possibly "Operating system not found".

On reboot, Acronis did the copying, then restarted, and failed to boot with the message NTDLR is missing, Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. the boot code in that partition is trying to boot Windows from a particular partition number but that partition number is not correct for that disk so it doesn't find NTLDR.

I think your gonna need the xp cd's cause if your drive is ntfs you won't be able to see it with a dos boot disk and therefore can't copy the needed file over.
